Evesham & District Table Tennis Report for week ending 19th January 2014
Kington Blades have moved up to 3rd place in Specsavers Division 1 and are emerging as the strongest challengers to Bengeworth Lions for the championship. Blades defeated Littleton Clubs 7-3, in a match that saw an exciting clash between two of the top players in the league. Clubs’ Dave Harvey beat Blades’ Craig Norledge but had to fight back from 2-1 down. Despite this defeat, Blades won out in the end, with Norledge, Alan Cotton and Gary Stewart each winning 2 out of 3 singles matches and also taking the doubles.
Littleton Aces are hanging onto second place after a rare defeat against Littleton Clubs, but Blades have games in hand and are likely to catch them. Aces’ Mark Bilsborrow put up strong resistance, winning 2 out of 3, but a confident performance from Clubs’ Alex Tomlinson alongside Dave Harvey ensured Clubs edged the result.
