The new Evesham & District Table Tennis season got underway this week with 4 matches played in Specsavers Division 1. Defending champions Kington Blades looked strong again in a 9-1 victory over Bengeworth Purple. Pete Dunnett, Clive Irwin and John Price each won 3 for Blades. Margaret Dignum and Richard McGhee salvaged a point for Purple in a hard-fought fiveset doubles.
Bengeworth Red beat Kington Bulldogs 8-2. Red’s Jack Davis and Luke Gresty were both undefeated.
Littleton Positives started their season with an 8-2 win against Littleton Cobras. Positives’ new player James Morrow had a dream start following his move up from Division 2. He was Player of the Match with 3 wins, including a rare 3-1 victory against Under 18s rival Craig Witheford. Morrow and Rob Sinderberry also won the doubles in straight sets.
Littleton Clubs were a player short for their match with Wallace House Avengers and were defeated 8-2. Last year’s Division 2 champion Keith Ferguson has also made a move up to Division 1. Ferguson won both his matches for Avengers, showing great determination to fight back from 2 sets down to defeat Clubs’ Stephen Foster.
