Littleton Positives maintained their lead at the top of Evesham & District Specsavers Division 1 with a 6-4 victory over Littleton Aces and a 10-0 win against Kington Bulldogs. James Morrow was Player of the Match against Aces after beating all 3 of his opponents. Morrow dropped out against Bulldogs and Robert Poole returned to the Positives line-up for only the second time this season. Poole did not look at all rusty and won all his matches, demonstrating the strength in depth that has been so vital to the success of the squad this season.
2nd placed Wyre Elite kept up the pressure on Positives with a 7-3 defeat of Bengeworth Red. Red’s Jack Davis was beaten by both Alex Grokhotov and Matt Hartwell. Davis remains 5th in the individual averages, behind Grokhotov and Hartwell who are 2nd and 3rd. Red had a better result against Bengeworth Purple, winning 9-1. Chris Message was Player of the Match for Red with 3 wins.
Elsewhere, there was an exciting match between last year’s champions Kington Blades and Wallace House Avengers, in which half the matches went the full 5 sets and the evening ended in a draw. Avengers’ Luke Moffat came out on the right side of fiveset thrillers against John Price and Pete Dunnett to maintain his 4th place in the averages. Keith Ferguson also beat Price in 5 sets. Geoff Burford was less fortunate for Avengers, losing in 5 sets to both Dunnett and Alan Cotton. However Burford did pick up a crucial win against Price. Blades finally snatched the draw in the doubles, with Cotton and Dunnett defeating Burford and Moffat 3-1.
