Littleton Dolphins won a close match against Bengeworth Wolves this week in Evesham & District Specsavers Division 2. Simon Robinson was the top player for Dolphins with 3 wins. Bob Bryant and Pavel Czechowicz replied with 2 wins each for Wolves. Wolves had an opportunity to salvage a draw in the doubles, but Robinson and Jamie Chinn-Brown beat Bryant and Czechowicz in straight sets.
Bengeworth Pandas picked up their first win of the season, 8-2 against Littleton Giants. Margaret Dignum was undefeated for Pandas and also combined with Dave Simkins to win the doubles. Derek Close won 2 for Giants. Highlight of the match was an exciting fiveset tussle between Paul Geary of Pandas and Andrew Gretton of Giants, which ended with a 13-11 win for Geary in the final set.
Littleton Bears beat Wyre Warriors 7-3 with a strong performance from Bears’ Malcolm Dewsbury, who was unbeaten on the night. Malcolm Daley was also in good form for Warriors, narrowly losing to Dewsbury in 5 sets but then beating last season’s Division 2 champion Paul Bruner 3-0.
Wyre Barbedwyre continued their winning start to the season with a 6-4 victory at Littleton Jackson Five, who went into the match a player short. Barbedwyre’s Eric Lane beat Holly Bilsborrow in straight sets, but lost 3-1 to Rosie Philpott. Joan Parfitt lost a tense fiveset match against Philpott and was beaten 3-1 by Bilsborrow. John Buxton proved the difference, beating both Littleton opponents to ensure the victory.
Littleton Jackson Five suffered a further defeat against JLM Sunrisers. Jonathan Lyons continued his unbeaten run, helping Sunrisers to a 6-4 win.
