Littleton Dolphins are the early leaders in Evesham & District Specsavers Division 2, having won all 5 of their opening matches. Their latest victory came in a close contest against Wyre Barbedwyre which eventually finished 6-4. Jamie Chinn-Brown was the hero for Dolphins, winning all 3 of his matches. He showed great composure for a young player in reading the game and fighting back from a set down against his 3 more experienced opponents. He also combined well with John McKay to beat John Buxton and Mike Moore in the doubles, this time fighting back from 2 sets down and inflicting a first defeat of the season upon Barbedwyre.
Dolphins’ next opponents will be JLM Sunrisers, who are also unbeaten. Sunrisers comfortably defeated Bengeworth Wolves 9-1, and Jonathan Lyons picked up another 3 wins to extend his season’s winning run to 9 matches.
Another contender for top player In Division 2, Dave Bevington, was beaten for the first time this season in the match between Littleton Jackson Five and Littleton Giants. Bevington beat Rosie Phillpot and Holly Bilsborrow and combined with Andrew Gretton to win the doubles for Giants, but Jackson Five captain Sandra Jackson put in an impressive performance to defeat Bevington in straight sets. The win proved crucial as Jackson Five finished 6-4 winners.
Last season’s Division 2 champion, Paul Bruner came back strongly after some uncharacteristic defeats in his earlier matches this season. He inspired Littleton Bears to an 8-2 victory over Littleton Cobras. Bruner beat all 3 opponents in straight sets, including the previously undefeated Graham Briscombe
