League Update December

Division 1

JLM Hawks retained the top spot in Evesham & District Specsavers Division 1 after comfortable victories over Kington Bulldogs, Bengeworth Purple and Littleton Clubs. Luke Gresty made his first appearances of the season for Hawks and won 5 from 6, beaten only by John Taylor of Clubs.

Last year’s champions Wyre Elite are also building momentum, beating Littleton Positives 8-2 and Littleton Clubs 6-4.  Elite’s Alex Grokhotov won all his matches but Matt Hartwell suffered a rare defeat by junior player Craig Witheford of Littleton Clubs, whose game is developing brilliantly. Grokhotov may be a future target for Witheford, although on this occasion Witheford suffered his first defeat of the season as the Wyre Elite man won in straight sets.

Kington Blades are another team hitting form. They picked up wins against JLM Dragonflies, Littleton Positives and Littleton Clubs to move into second place. In a 9-1 victory over Dragonflies, Alan Cotton, Clive Irwin and John Price all beat the highly ranked Svilen Andreev. Blades defeated Positives 8-2. Irwin and Cotton had 3 wins. Price lost to junior player James Morrow and Morrow and Rob Sinderberry beat Irwin and Cotton in the doubles. Blades came up against Craig Witheford in the match against Clubs, and he proved too strong for all 3 opponents. However, Cotton, Irwin and Price each won their other 2 matches along with the doubles to seal a 7-3 win for Blades.

Bengeworth Purple picked up their second win of the season in a closely fought 6-4 victory over JLM Owls. Christopher Lane went unbeaten for Owls, but 2 wins each for Dougie Allan and Richard McGhee set up Bengeworth to triumph as long as they could hold onto the doubles. Keith Ferguson and Christopher Lane went into an early lead, but McGhee and Allan eventually won 3-1.

Littleton Aces also scored a second win, beating JLM Owls 9-1. Duncan Arrandale and Andrew Taylor were unbeaten for Aces.
