Division 1

Wyre Elite are building momentum in the race for the Evesham & District Specsavers Division 1 title. Elite beat Littleton Cobras 8-2 and Littleton Clubs 6-4. During the win over Clubs, Elite’s Alex Grokhotov became the first player this season to defeat the league’s highest rated player, Dave Harvey in a thrilling five set contest. Grokhotov produced a brilliant performance in the final set, winning 11-2.

Elite are in second place behind Littleton Positives with a game in hand. The 2 sides are scheduled to play each other this week in what will be a crucial match in the championship. Positives beat Bengeworth Purple 8-2 but were held to a draw by Littleton Clubs. Dave Harvey won 3 for Clubs and Stephen Foster and John Taylor both had victories over Positives’ Rob Sinderberry.

3rd placed Kington Blades kept alive their hopes of retaining the championship with a 7-3 win over Bengeworth Red. Blades’ John Price had an impressive victory over Bengeworth’s top player Jack Davis, fighting back from 2 sets to 1 down. However Luke Gresty took revenge for Bengeworth, and beat Price 3- 1.
