Wyre Elite have tightened their grip on this season’s Specsavers Division 1 championship as their two closest rivals suffered defeats this week.
Kington Blades remain in 2nd place with one to play after a 6-4 defeat by Littleton Clubs. Dave Harvey won 3 for Clubs. John Taylor and Stephen Foster also took one win each, both against John Price. In an exciting doubles contest, Harvey and Taylor then fought back from 2-1 down to seal the win for clubs.
Littleton Positives ended their season with a 6-4 loss against Wallace House Avengers and will now finish no higher than 3rd place. Luke Moffat was Player of the Match with 3 wins, including a 3-1 victory over Positives’ top player Nick Mytton. Keith Ferguson was also on strong form for Avengers, beating both Doug Payne and Robert Poole.
Littleton Aces ensured they will finish no lower than 6th with a 6-4 win against closest rivals Bengeworth Red. Jack Davis won 3 for Red. Andrew Taylor and Saulius Breitaris replied with 2 wins each against Luke Gresty and Chris Message. It all came down to the doubles, and Taylor and Duncan Arrandale beat Davis and Gresty 3-1.
In the battle of the bottom two, the result went with league position as Kington Bulldogs comfortably beat Bengeworth Purple 9-1. Malcolm MacFarlane and Andrew Smith were undefeated for Bulldogs. Richard McGhee took the one win for Purple against Ernie Smith. Smith had been 2-0 down and fought back to level the contest, only for McGhee to win the final set.
