Matches got underway again this week in Evesham & District Specsavers Division 1, following the Christmas break. A close contest between JLM Dragonflies and Kington Bulldogs ended in a draw. Malcolm McFarlane finished with 3 wins for Bulldogs and also combined with Andrew Smith to win the doubles. MacFarlane’s toughest test came against Mark Hale. Hale looked to be in a strong position when he fought back to level the contest at 2-2, but MacFarlane replied by winning the final set 13-11. Hale had straight sets wins against Steve Shaw and Andrew Smith. Ed Sommers also won 2 for Dragonflies.
A tight battle between mid-table rivals Littleton Clubs and Littleton Aces also finished level. Evesham U18s champion Craig Witheford dominated with 3 wins for Clubs. Younger brother Alistair took both Mark Dudley and Saulius Breitaris to 5 sets but finished without a win in his singles matches. Mark Dudley and Andrew Taylor both won 2 for Aces. The Witheford brothers have great understanding as a doubles pair and ensured the draw with a 3-1 win against Breitaris and Dudley.
In other matches, there were routine 10-0 wins for Kington Blades against JLM Owls and for Littleton Positives against Bengeworth Purple.
