12th Feb 2017

There are 4 weeks of competition remaining until the end of the season in Evesham & District Specsavers Division 2. It looks like the championship will come down to a battle between Littleton Dolphins and JLM Sunrisers. Both teams picked up 2 wins in the latest round of matches. Dolphins now lead by 4 points, but Sunrisers have 2 matches in hand and the teams are still to play against each other. Dolphins’ latest wins came against Bengeworth Pandas and Wyre Barbedwyre. Simon Robinson of Dolphins went undefeated across both matches and is in second place in the Division 2 averages with 25 wins from 27 played. Kevin Taylor of Sunrisers is in third place with just one more defeat than Robinson.

Littleton Giants put in an impressive performance to beat Littleton Jackson Five 7-3 in an entertaining contest. Dave Bevington finished the evening with 3 wins and also won the doubles with partner Andrew Gretton. Gretton was beaten by Rosie Phillpot of Jackson Five but fought back from 2-1 down to defeat Leanne Knight in 5 sets. Derek Close had a straight sets win for Giants against Anna Cole and was 2-1 up against Phillpot before she raised her game in the final 2 sets to secure her second win of the evening.

Wyre Warriors have sometimes struggled for players this season, but showed what they can achieve with a full strength team against Littleton Giants. James Glazzard joined Stephen Glazzard for the first time this season, and together with Ray Griffiths they finished 7-3 winners. The Glazzards were undefeated and Griffiths picked up one win against Tony Spinks.  Stephen Glazzard is on target to win the best individual player in division 2 with 25 wins from 26 played. Dave Bevington and Andrew Gretton had one win each for Giants and also won the doubles with a fantastic fight back from 2-0 down against Griffiths and Stephen Glazzard.
