In Evesham & District Basepoint Division 1 this week, Kington Bulldogs earned a valuable draw against Wyre Elite. As was to be expected, Matt Hartwell was undefeated for Elite, winning all his matches in straight sets. But Andrew Smith was on good form for Bulldogs, beating Darrell Wiltshire 3-1 and Graham Fisher 3-0. Malcolm Macfarlane lost to Fisher but picked up another win for Bulldogs, beating Wiltshire in straight sets. Ernie Smith lost to Wiltshire, but came out on top in an exciting battle with Fisher. Ernie Smith looked in trouble when Fisher won the fourth set 11-4 to level the match, but Smith picked up his game to win the final set 11-8. Bulldogs needed one more victory in the doubles to force the draw, and they saw an opportunity when Hartwell was not included in the Elite pair. Andrew and Ernie Smith beat Fisher and Wiltshire after coming back from 1-0 and 2-1 down.
Littleton Positives had a comfortable 10-0 win against Bengeworth Purple. Nick Mytton, Rob Sinderberry and Rob Poole won all their matches against Dougie Allan, Bob Bryant and Aileen Phillips.
JLM Hawks beat JLM Owls 9-1. Hawks’ Mark Hale and Jack Davis had three wins each against Chris Lane, Stuart Greene and Stephen Foster. Owls’ only victory of the night came when Greene beat Hawks’ Barbara Szeligowska in straight sets.
