Evesham & District Table Tennis Association - Basepoint Division 2 Report
14th January 2018
Matches in Evesham & District Basepoint Division 2 got underway again this week following the Christmas break. Littleton Dolphins maintained their position at the top of the table with their 13th straight win of the season, defeating Littleton Bears 9-1. Simon Robinson and John McKay are still unbeaten in Division 2 this season. They each had 3 wins against Bears’ Graham Jackson, Malcolm Dewsbury and Paul Bruner. Bears’ only win came when Bruner defeated Jamie Chinn-Brown in the closest contest of the night. Chinn-Brown seemed to have the advantage when he won a tight 3rd set 17-15 to take a 2-1 lead but Bruner used all his experience to fight back against his younger opponent and won the next 2 sets with relative ease.
JLM Eagles are in second place, after beating Bengeworth Wolves 8-2. Geoff Collings and John Moore both won all three of their matches for Eagles. Eagles’ David Lincoln-Lewis beat Timothy Willis and Ray Griffiths but lost to Bob Bryant. Bryant and Griffiths won the doubles for Wolves, beating Moore and Lincoln-Lewis 3-0.
Littleton Cobras moved up to third place with an 8-2 victory over Littleton Giants. Alex Emms had three straight sets wins for Cobras. Luke Fisher also won 3, although he had to battle hard to beat Derek Close in five sets. Cobras’ Jamie Haynes beat Tony Spinks but lost to Close and Johnny Blakely.
Bengeworth Pandas had an 8-2 win against Littleton Jackson Five. John Buxton and Dave Simkins were on good form for Pandas and both went undefeated, although Simkins had to fight back from two sets down to beat Jackson Five’s Leanne Knight. Knight and Rosie Phillpot both beat Paul Gearey. Jackson Five’s Anna Cole ended the evening without a win.
