Evesham & District Basepoint Division 2 leaders Littleton Dolphins lost their season’s 100% record in a 5-5 draw against Littleton Bears. Bears’ Paul Bruner was Player of the Match with 3 wins. Karen Chu won 2 for Dolphins, beating Greg Bruner and Malcolm Dewsbury. Jade Ngan narrowly defeated Dewsbury in five sets but lost to Greg Bruner in another five set thriller. Littleton youngster Ben Robinson is an exciting prospect and is rapidly growing in confidence. He picked up his 6th win of the season against Greg Bruner. Dolphins went into the doubles 5-4 down and brought in the experience of John McKay and Simon Robinson to salvage a draw. McKay and Robinson beat Greg Bruner and Dewsbury in straight sets.
Second-placed Littleton Cobras were also held 5-5 in their match against Bengeworth Pandas. Alex Emms won 3 for Cobras. John Buxton and Margaret Dignum replied for Pandas with 2 wins each against Luke Fisher and Rebecca Arrandale. Fisher beat Paul Gearey, leaving Cobras an opportunity to level the match in the doubles. Emms and Fisher beat Dignum and Buxton 3-1.
After a strong result against a higher placed team, Bengeworth Pandas then lost to the side immediately below them. Littleton Jackson Five were on strong form to beat Pandas 6-4. Rosie Phillpot was the key player for Jackson Five with 3 wins. Phillpot had to hold her nerve to beat Margaret Dignum 13-11 in the fifth set, after Dignum fought back to level from two sets down. Holly Bilsborrow won two for Jackson Five, beating Dave Simkins and Paul Gearey, but losing to Dignum.
