Report from Bob Landberger
Runners-up-elect West Exe C breezed to a 10-2 win over an outclassed Wingfield C. Only two singles sets went the distance, both involving Martin Atkin. Louis Wilshire shaded the opener, but Bob Landberger let slip a match point in the evening’s final singles set and paid the price.
Man-of-the-match Ben Yarde-Buller conceded a leg to both Wilshire and Peter Holland, but calmly picked up yet another maximum, courtesy of his ferocious and seemingly ever-improving attacking game. Holland found himself on the wrong end of another blitz, this time at the hands of the irrepressible Martin Atkin, before forcing doubts into the mind of Stef Ferrari to collect his solitary win of the evening over four legs. West Exe conceded only one leg in their three doubles wins, and wrapped up a (for them at least!) very satisfying evening. Wingfield were left to lick their wounds and console themselves that most other sides in this division have found themselves in a similar position when facing such opposition.
