Senior League Week 10

Division 1

Lions B extended their lead at the top of the 1st Division to 3 points after they posted a comprehensive 9-1 win over the bottom placed side Whistlers B. Phil Ogier and reserve Matt Stubbington both won their 3 singles encounters over Phil Hunkin, Ben Foss and reserve Martin Sarre. The closest of these matches came in the opener of the evening during a high quality encounter between Stubbington and Hunkin. Stubbington led 2-0 before Hunkin edged the 3rd and 4th games 16-14, 12-10. The decider was another close game, but Stubbington held his nerve and closed it out 11-8. Paul Hainsworth added straight game wins over Hunkin and Sarre and also teamed up with Ogier to defeat the Whistlers combination of Hunkin and Foss in a 4 game doubles win. He was unable to go through the match unbeaten as he lost out to Foss in the deciding 5th end of their encounter, a result which prevented the whitewash.

Lions B's point extension to their lead came due to Lions A's dropped point during their stalemate with Lions C. Garry Dodd led the way for the A side with singles wins over Alex Robinson, Joshua Butler and Andre De Carteret. Liam Robilliard added a 4 game win over De Carteret and played an important part in the pivotal doubles encounter, alongside Dodd. The C side's pairing of Robinson and Butler started very strongly and cruised through the opening 2 legs. They came within a few points of winning the match on numerous occasions but were unable to get through, losing the next 3 games by the narrow score lines of 15-13, 13-11, 15-13.

Division 2

Whistlers D retained their 2 point lead at the top following an 8-2 triumph over Ravenscroft Panthers A. Jez Powell and Ryan Bichard won both of their singles matches over Ben Foote and reserve Mark Windsor. Albert Unden added a win over Windsor but was beaten in 4 games by Foote. Foote and Windsor impressed during a straight game doubles win over Bichard and Unden. The Whistlers side claimed 3 points via walkover.

Division 3

Lions G hold a 4 point advantage at the top of the 3rd and ran out 8-2 winners over Whistlers G this week. Jamie and Andrew Ferbrache were unbeaten courtesy of singles wins over Shane Cotter, Ryan Gilson and Charlotte Casey. They also teamed up to win the doubles over Casey and Gilson in straight games. Reserve Rose Powell was unfortunate to lose 11-8 in the 5th to Cotter but bounced back strongly with a 4 game win over Casey in the final match of the evening.

Lions H continue to chase the leaders and secured an important 6-4 win over defending champions St Pauls B. Theo Lepp and reserve Peter Powell each beat Brandon Ferbrache and Brian Le Cras in singles action before teaming to defeat Le Cras and Derek Carter in a straight game doubles win. Lynn Finn was the player to obtain the crucial 6th win during her straight game win over Ferbrache. Carter impressed for the St Pauls side, in particular during his 5 game wins over Powell and Lepp.

Division 4

Lions J are looking in a strong position at the top of the 4th with a 3 point lead over their K side. Sam Totty, Val Guilbert and Diane Le Page were in no mood to let anything slip and they all beat Corey Brouard, Callum Gilson and Michelle Gilson in singles competition. Guilbert and Totty then teamed up to defeat Callum and Corey in a straight game doubles win.
