Division 1
Lions A extended their lead at the top of the Doric Insurance backed 1st Division this week after recording a 7-3 win over 4th placed side Whistlers C.
The win in question came during an evening where the sides in 2nd and 3rd place, Lions C and Whistlers A, were not competing due to them having contested their fixture 2 weeks prior in a re-arranged clash. The victory was well earned on the night as the leaders were missing Ben Foss, the player who picked up the Jack Carrington trophy just 2 days prior. Joshua Butler made sure of the result with an assured evening of performances. He defeated Lawrence Stacey and Albert Unden over 4 ends on top of a straight sets win over Matthew Casey. His other success came in the doubles encounter, where alongside Dan Collenette they came through over 4 ends against Stacey and Casey. Collenette himself ensured the win was obtained due to his 5 set win over Casey and 4 set win over Unden. 2nd Division reserve Brian Ferbrache also contributed well to the result as he earned an impressive 4 game win over Unden.
Whistlers B remain bottom of the table, however they moved to within just 2 points of 5th placed side Lions B when they defeated them 8-2 this week. The result was helped due to the absence of a 3rd player for the Lions side, gifting the victors a 3-0 lead from the offset. Joshua Stacey and Martin Sarre each beat brothers Ryan and Luke Bichard to secure the win and they also teamed up to beat the brothers in the doubles clash, in straight games. The Bichard brothers did not walk away empty handed though, as each overcame Whistlers 2nd Division reserve Corey Brouard over the full 5 sets.
Division 2
Lions D are 5 points clear at the top after they overcame 3rd placed side Whistlers D 8-2 this week. Andy Gill was the star performer due to his singles wins over Kay Chivers, Keith Opie and Corey Brouard. Jamie Ferbrache beat Opie and Brouard and this feat was incredibly matched by reserve Steve Ozanne, who edged both over 5 sets. Ozanne is a former Island player and Island Champion at Junior level and has been competing in the Business league this season. The results from this fixture evidence that he has not lost much of his ability. Gill and Ferbrache put the icing on the cake when they beat Chivers and Brouard over 5 sets in the doubles encounter.
Division 3
Whistlers G remain 4 points clear at the top of the 3rd Division after their hard fought 6-4 victory over 3rd placed side St Pauls B. Ellis Tomlin has been the player of the season and is still yet to taste defeat in singles action, but he had his strongest test during this fixture. He needed 4 sets to overcome Craig Dunning and Brian Le Cras, however his hardest match came against Derek Carter where he needed to come back from 2-1 down to win in 5. Tom Hagerich beat Le Cras in 5 and Carter in 4 to put his side on the brink of victory and this was obtained during the doubles clash, where alongside Tomlin, they overcame Dunning and Carter over 5 sets. Each of the St Pauls players picked up singles wins over Jayden Tucknott.
Division 4
Whistlers K had their lead at the top reduced to 3 points after they slipped to a narrow 6-4 defeat at the hands of 3rd placed side Lions K. Val Guilbert and reserve Rosemary Powell each earned singles wins over Joe Le Page and reserve Shelby Timms and Diane Le Page also overcame Timms in straight games. The crucial 6th rubber was achieved in the doubles match when Guilbert and Le Page defeated Shane Cotter and Le Page emphatically in straight games. Cotter was in superb form for the leaders despite the defeat and overcame all Lions opposition in straight games.
