Senior League 2018-19 Week 4

Division 1

Whistlers B maintained their 100% winning start to the season courtesy of a 6-4 win over Whistlers A.

The league leaders have won every single match so far this season 6-4 and this serves as evidence that the Division is fairly evenly matched. In this particular encounter, it was Lawrence Stacey who proved decisive in the outcome of the match. He defeated Dawn Morgan, Ellis Tomlin and reserve Paula Le Ber in singles action without dropping a leg. Matthew Casey added straight sets wins of his own over Tomlin and Le Ber, but was beaten in 4 sets by Morgan. Ryan Gilson's straight sets win over Le Ber made sure of the win. Morgan and Tomlin each beat Gilson in singles action and they also combined to edge the doubles over Casey and Gilson 11-6 in the decider.

Lions A are just 2 points behind the leaders and they earned a comfortable 7-3 win over Whistlers C this week. Ben Foss was in good form for the victors as he earned singles wins over Joshua Stacey in 5 sets, Mark Pipet and Charlotte Casey. The win over Stacey also saw the last 100% singles record fall away and Foss, Josh and Lawrence have now all lost just 1 match so far this season. Ryan Bichard came back from 2-0 down to defeat Pipet and he also defeated Casey in straight sets. Jamie Ferbrache picked up a straight sets win over Casey as well as winning the doubles alongside Foss over Stacey and Casey in 4 sets.

Lions B defeated Lions C 6-4 this week and it sees them level on points with their A side. Phil Ogier led the charge strongly with singles wins over Paul Hainsworth, Andy Gill and Corey Brouard, losing just the single set to Hainsworth in the process. He also teamed with Andre De Carteret to win the doubles rubber against Gill and Brouard in 4 sets. Daniel Collenette made sure of the win when he defeated Gill and Brouard in straight sets. For the defeated side all members overcame De Carteret and Hainsworth picked up a 4 sets win over Collenette.

Division 2

Whistlers D also have their 100% winning record intact and they won their 6th consecutive match of the season this week, a 7-3 win over St Pauls A the order of the day. Kay Chivers was unbeaten due to wins over Craig Dunning, Chas Elliott and Trevor Bourgaize. Ben Sharp added wins over Dunning and Bourgaize, whilst Keith Opie overcame Elliott. The doubles was won by Chivers and Opie over Elliott and Bourgaize in straight sets.

Division 3

St Pauls B, Lions H and Ravenscroft Panthers D are all level at the top on 6 points. The reason for this was the St Pauls side's 6-4 win over previous league leaders Lions H this week. Craig Dunning was untroubled during his straight sets singles wins over Peter Powell, Oscar Pearson and Edward Rowe and he also teamed with Derek Carter to win the doubles encounter over Pearson and Rowe in straight sets. Carter beat Rowe in straight sets and the decisive 6th rubber came when Brian Le Cras overcame Pearson in 5 sets.

Division 4

Lions K and Whistlers I are level at the top of the table on 6 points each. The Lions side dropped a point this week when they were held to a 5-5 draw by Lions L. Rose Powell was the star performer for the L side due to her unbeaten evening that included wins over Val Guilbert, Diane Le Page and James Le Tissier. Erin Vaudin added the other wins over Guilbert and Le Page, but was surprisingly beaten by Le Tissier in the final match of the night.
