DEATH OF OUR CHAIRMAN MIKE FLYNN

It was announced last Tuesday that our Chairman Mike Flynn had passed away in hospital. Mike played for Hollingworth and had served the Glossop Table Tennis League as committee member and then Chairman for over 30 years. Mike's greatest achievement was introducing young people to the game and it was primarily due to his great enthusiasm for this enterprise that the Glossop and District Table Tennis Club was formed. The club met on Saturday afternoons at St Philip Howard School and Mike attended as many coaching sessions as he could. He was also responsible for organising the very successful league's annual awards night, which for the last few years has been held at Glossop Golf Club. Away from table tennis Mike led the fight for a Mottram relief road and he also served as a magistrate on the Tameside bench. Mike will be sadly missed by not only all his friends in the table tennis world but by everyone who knew him. He will be sadly missed.

Mike's funeral is at Mottram Church on Thursday August 2nd at 1.15pm.
