Stars of future prove a big hit

Today's Gloucester City Junior championships proved a huge hit as the tournament served up a new batch of future stars.


Ahead of the senior event being held tomorrow, Gloucester's Juniors were in action at the Robin Greaves Sports Hall, Waterwells today.

Proceedings started with the Boys U13's which was played as a round robin between the 5 aspiring stars. After almost 2 hours of quality play both George Thomas & Rhys Havard had accrued 3 wins apiece. On countback, George took the top spot with Rhys finishing runner up.

The Boys U18's was next, with 9 players from the Gloucester League split into 2 groups. Top seed Olly Tyndall made easy work of reaching the final without dropping a set. On the other half of the draw Ben Glover had to come from 2 down against Ed Birt to meet Olly in the final, which is to be played on "Finals night" at Wotton Hall Club, Barnwood on Friday 22nd April. 

Also in action were Gloucester girls Anna Maria Besarabova, Charlotte Sparrow & Rebecca Greenough in the Girls U13's. Anna was dominant taking both her games in 3 to be crowned champion, while Charlotte pipped Rebecca to runner's up spot, winning in 5. Both Anna & Charlotte also contested the Girl's U15s final with Anna again taking the win & her second title of the day!

The Boy's U15's also with 9 players, saw newcomer to the Gloucester League, Kyle Day, take the title without dropping a set. Runner up Owen Havard performed well, also not dropping a set until his final against Kyle who just proved too strong on this occasion.  

The final event of the day, saw non league player's fight it out in the Novice U18s. The round robin event between the 5 boys proved a success with all participants thoroughly enjoying themselves. 11 year old future star, Ryan Hunt proved too strong for the rest, winning all 4 of his games. Louis Clark was a close 2nd winning 3  out of 4.
