Godalming Simply Let I and II British League Report September 2018

15 year old Danielle Kelly scores sensational win!

Danielle Kelly, representing Godalming Simply Let II, sensationally defeated England Senior no.72 ranked player Mateusz Mikosz in the Senior British League. In a very close match, she held her nerve to win 14-12 in the deciding game to record one of her best ever wins.

Aside from this, there wasn’t much joy to be had for either of Godalming’s sides on the weekend of 8th and 9th September 2018. Both teams lost all four of their matches and prop up the tables of their respective divisions, but there were some close matches that could easily have gone either way.

The 2nd team played their matches in Fareham and came closest against host team Generation 2, only losing 5-4. Chris King won his first ever match at this level, while Robin Honey and Charlie Cunningham won one match each and then combined to win the doubles. Steve Day came close to sealing the win but just lost out in his match 3-2.

The 1st team played at Cippenham TTC and came closest against Woodford Wells. With the score tied at 4-4, Godalming’s Jamie Nordin lost the deciding match to Tyla Anderson, but earlier on Adam Laws was very unlucky to lose 3-2 to Zoltan Hosszu. Leading 2-1 and 11-10, Laws looked set to win, but Hosszu’s high return caught the faintest of edges. In their first match against London Academy, Godalming lost 6-3 in a match that could have also had a different scoreline; Federico Viterbo, Hari Gehlot and Jamie Nordin each lost one of their matches at deuce in the fifth. However Viterbo did score an excellent win over England no.28 Gabriel Achampong.
