20th October 2015 Match Reports

In Division One of the Eastern Valley League the bottom two sides Cwmbran Colts and Blaenavon Aces had the anticipated close match. The Colts coming out on top 16-15 thanks to a player of the match performance from Lee Thomas with his 3 wins. This match had the League's 4  top junior players battling out for bragging rights which went to the Aces Bethany Brewer with her 2 wins.

Bristol Nomads continued to dominate the division, although in their latest match against Cwmbran Blues they were taken all the way before running out winners 21-17. This was despite a player of the match performance from the Blues' Mark Farrow who won his 3 matches. Mike Bishop was making his first start for the Nomads this season and together with Peter Gordon won 2 matches each.

YMCA Preachers were hoping to keep up the pressure on the leaders in their match with Cwmbran Aztecs. However, in the absence of their number one player, Claire Flannagan, they went down 13 - 22. After a sluggish start to the season by his own high standards, the Aztecs' Tony Collins was back to his best with 3 wins and only dropping 1 set. Collins was given good back up by Rogers Grech who with 2 wins proved an able replacement for the unavailable Andrew Ryder. For the Preachers Ray Goulding tried his best to stem the tide with his 2 wins.

As with the Nomads in division one, Cwmbran Panthers continue to dominate Division Two. They enjoyed a comfortable 26 - 6 win against Cwmbran Devils who were their nearest challengers at this early stage of the season. The Panthers' Mike Blatchford was the player of the match just ahead of Yuri Cherkasenko with their 3 wins each. The Devils' Stan Williams scored 5 of his sides 6 points.

The new team giving chase to the Panthers are Cwmbran Dynamos who also had a comfortable win 25 - 5 against Cwmbran Eccentrics. The Dynamos' Alex Jones and Star Limbu both recorded maximum wins for their side with only Alson Limbu providing any resistance.

Blaenavon Bulldogs recorded their first win of the season 24 - 9 against Cwmbran Fellows. The Bulldogs' Lincoln Alford produced a player of the match performance with his 3 wins. Congratulations to Bulldogs juniors Callum Hunt, who recorded maximum wins for the first time in his league career, and Coel Alford on his first win in league table tennis. The good news for the Fellows is that next week Wayne Ford returns from his football supporting to take on the leaders Cwmbran Panthers.
