10th November 2015 Match Reports

Week 6 of the Eastern Valley Table Tennis League pitched the leaders of Division One, Bristol Nomads against Blaenavon Aces, who have been strengthened by the inclusion of Piotr Sniezek in their squad. The Nomads won the match 24-16 with 5 of the games going to 5 sets. The highlight of the match was the clash between two unbeaten players, Chris Price of the Nomads and Sniezek. It was player of the match Price who came out on top after coming back from 2 sets down to win 3-2 in an enthralling match. Price's son Louis also did well to win 2 matches and only lost in 5 sets to Sniezek.

The second placed side YMCA Preachers went down 14-18 to Cwmbran Blues in a close match. Player of the match was Mark Farrow with his 3 wins ably assisted by David D Lloyd with his 2 wins. For the Preachers Ray Goulding won 2 matches.

The final match between Cwmbran Aztecs and Cwmbran Colts would normally have provided a win for the Aztecs. However, the Colts' player/manager John Spencer was obviously getting concerned with their bottom position in the division and called up Neil Wright to aid his plight. This meant that the Colts now had the Number 1 and 2 ranked Veterans in Wales, Lee Thomas and Wright. Despite this the Aztecs put up a good fight before going down 14-22 with the Aztecs Mark Edmunds pulling off the result of the night in beating Wright 3-1. Thomas with his 3 wins was the player of the match.

With less than half the season completed the Division Two title is already looking to be heading to last seasons winners, Cwmbran Panthers. In their latest match they comfortably beat a weakened Cwmbran Dynamos side 25-7. There was the usual player of the match performance from Mike Blatchford plus the continued good form being displayed by Yuri Cherkasenko, both with 3 wins each.

The closest match of the night involved Cwmbran Devils and Blaenavon Bulldogs which the Devils won 16-15. The Devils had Colin Scott making a welcome return to the side and he and Stan Williams with their 2 wins each guided their team to a win. A player of the match performance from the Bulldogs' Lincoln Alford with his 3 wins could not prevent his side losing.

Cwmbran Fellows gained only their second win of the season 25-5 against Cwmbran Eccentrics. For the Fellows there were 3 wins each for Richard Lownsbough and Wayne Ford with young Matthew Cullingford winning 2 matches.
