12th December 2018 Match Reports

Once again there were only Division Two matches being played this week in the Eastern Valley Table Tennis League, due to ongoing maintenance work at Cwmbran Stadium. Cwmbran Panthers took advantage of the postponement of Cwmbran Dynamos' match to take top spot in Division Two with a win over Cwmbran Fellows 22-14. The Panthers took revenge for their defeat in the first match of the season despite a player of the match performance from the Fellows' Wayne Ford who won all matches, although, he had to come from 2 sets down to overcome Colin Price in a very tight game. For the Panthers, Price, Howard Gaut and Yuri Cherkasenko won 2 matches each.

The only other match played saw Cwmbran Devils beat Cwmbran Eccentrics 20-13 to move up to 3rd place in Division Two. The highlight of the match was the game between Roshan Rai and John Thomas who were 2nd and 3rd respectively in the averages. The result was a 3-1 win for Rai, thereby gaining revenge for a defeat to Thomas earlier in the season. Rai went on to gain the player of the match award with his 3 wins and well supported by Stan Williams with his 2 wins and 8 points. For the Eccentrics Thomas gained 2 wins and Lincoln Alford 5 points. Special mention should go to Alan Howse who shocked all the other players in the hall by taking a set off Rai.

It will be back to normal next week with both Division One and Two matches taking place in the final round before Christmas.
