19th December 2017 Match Reports

 This weeks matches in Division One of the Eastern Valley Table Tennis League saw most teams struggling to field their normal teams. It was only by utilising players from Division Two that enabled all the teams to have a full complement of players. Cwmbran Colts maintained their top position following their 25-5 win over Bristol Nomads. Player of the match was the Colts' Lyndon Jones with his maximum wins, just edging out Mathew Pearce who also had 3 wins. They were both well supported by Ben Pearce with his 2 wins. For the Nomads Keith Armstrong registered his teams only win.

Cwmbran Aztecs slightly closed the gap on the leaders with a comfortable win over a depleted Blaenavon Aces by 27-3. Once again the Aztecs' Tony Collins was the player of the match with his maximum wins and was well supported by Mark Edmunds with his 3 wins. Roshan Rai, borrowed from Division Two, also registered 3 wins for the Aztecs. 

Third placed Cwmbran Blues were without all their regular players for their match against YMCA Preachers and despite their replacements battling hard they went down 24-10. Player of the match was the Preachers' David Lloyd with 3 wins and he was well supported by Claire Flannagan who also had 3 wins and Ray Goulding with 2 wins. The most keenly fought match of the night was the game between Flannagan and Dad, Wayne Ford,  in which Claire took advantage of some lucky nets and edges to win in 5 sets.(Guess whos writing this report). Quote from Ford " I do not bear grudges but Christmas has been cancelled for my daughter". For the Blues, Ian Maggs picked up 5 of his sides points.

In Division Two the leaders, Cwmbran Panthers, had a narrow 18-15 win over North Gwent Cougars. Despite their defeat the Cougars did provide the player of the match in Greg Price who won all his matches. For the Panthers Howard Gaut, Colin Price and Yuri Cherkasenko all won 2 matches each.

Cwmbran Dynamos edged closer to the leaders with a 24-9 win over Cwmbran Eccentrics. The Dynamos were without one of their regular players but were fortunate to be able to call on the services of Roshan Rai, borrowed from the Devils. Rai went on to follow his success in Div. One with 3 wins for the Dynamos to clinch the player of the match award. There were also 3 wins for Alex Jones and 2 wins for Will Smith-Haddon. For the Eccentrics' John Thomas picked up 6 of his sides points.

The final match in Division Two saw Chepstow Chiefs pick up the first win of the season by beating Cwmbran Fellows 19-14. The Chiefs were indebted to Elliot Kempton who picked up the player of the match award with his 3 wins. He was well supported by Connor Pyke with 2 wins. For the Fellows Peter Teichner picked up 2 wins including a good win over the higher ranked Pyke.
