15th January Match Reports

In Division One of the Eastern Valley Table Tennis League all teams have completed ten matches and Cwmbran Aztecs continue to lead the way. In their latest match the Aztecs overcome Blaenavon Aces 23-11 with Tony Collins providing another player of the match performance with three wins. Collins was well supported by Mark Edmunds who also had three wins. The Aces missed the presence of captain Jon Allen but Ben Allen and Iestyn Howells fought hard for their one win each.

The other match saw Cwmbran Tigers register a 19-15 win over their closest rivals for third place, YMCA Preachers, thanks to a player of the match performance from Roshan Rai with three wins. Rai was well supported by Michal Lukanic with two wins. For the Preachers Dave Lloyd fought hard for his two wins, with his only defeat coming in five sets to Rai.

In Division Two all teams have completed twelve matches and this week Cwmbran Eccentrics extended their lead at the top to twelve points when completing a 23-10 win over Cwmbran Devils. Player of the match was the Eccentrics' Ian Shipley whose three wins included a good win over the higher ranked Wayne Ford. Shipley was well supported by John Thomas and Lincoln Alford with two wins each. For the Devils guest player Wayne Ford registered two wins.

Second place in Division Two is currently held by North Gwent Cougars who won their latest match 17-15 against Cwmbran Lions. Player of the match was the Cougars' Goran Karabar with two wins and he was well supported by Sam Slatter also with two wins. For the Lions, John Williams picked up two wins including a very good win over the highly ranked Karabar and guest player Wayne Ford, having a busy night, also had two wins.

The final match saw the third placed team, Cwmbran Dynamos beating Cwmbran Panthers 23-12. Player of the match was the Dynamos' Alex Jones with three wins and he was well supported by Richard Lownsbrough who also had three wins. For the Panthers, Howard Gaut and Sunam Rai picked up one win each.
