17th December 2019 Match Reports

 The standout match in this week's matches in Division One of the Eastern Valley Table Tennis League involved a clash between the two unbeaten teams, Cwmbran Aztecs and Blaenavon Aces. In their previous encounter earlier in the season the teams could not be separated, but this time the Aces beat the Aztecs 19-17 in another close encounter. The player of the match was undoubtedly the Aces' Ben Allen whose 3 wins included his second win of the season over Tony Collins in a pulsating match. Allen was well supported by Jon Allen with 1 win and 6 team points and Iestyn Howells with 1 win and 4 team points. Despite this setback, the Aztecs continue to hold a healthy lead, with a game in hand, over their nearest rivals. For the Aztecs Tony Collins and Mark Edmunds secured 2 wins each.

Moving into third place in Division One are Cwmbran Blues following their 23-13 win over Cwmbran Tigers.  Player of the match was the Blues' Daniel Nilsson with his 3 wins. Nilsson was well supported by Jozef Sujanec with 2 wins and 8 match team points and Colin Price with 1 win and 6 team points. For the Tigers Jeraze Dhanbhoora had 2 wins and 8 team points and Michal Luckanic picked up 1 win.

The final match in Division One saw a titanic match fought out between Cardiff Nomads and North Gwent Cougars. All but two of the matches went to a deciding game with the Nomads eventually coming out on top by 24-19. Player of the match was the Nomads Abid Khan with his 3 wins and he was well supported by Geoff Strangeway with 2 wins and 8 team points and Dave Groundsell with 1 win and 7 team points. For the Cougars Michal Policht had 2 wins and Laura Price 1 win.

In Division Two, Cwmbran Dynamos continue to top the division following their 27-2 win over Cwmbran Panthers. Player of the match was their guest player, Wayne Ford with 3 wins and there were also maximum wins for Alex Jones and Richard Lownsbrough. For the Panthers Howard Gaut picked up 2 team points.

In second place, with a game in hand on the leaders, are Cwmbran Eccentrics who beat Cwmbran Fellows 24-8 in their latest match. Player of the match was the Eccentrics' Ian Shipley with 3 wins and he was well supported by John Thomas and Lincoln Alford with 2 wins each. For the Fellows Wayne Ford picked up 2 wins.

The final match in the division saw Cwmbran Devils defeat North Gwent Terriers 22-13. Player of the match was the Devils' Stan Williams with 3 wins and he was well supported by Colin Scott with 2 wins and guest player Haydn Skinner, also with 2 wins. For the Terriers Rhys Fidler secured 2 wins and Joel Price 4 team points.
