4th February 2020 Match Reports

 This weeks' matches in Division One of the Eastern Valley Table Tennis League saw the leaders Cwmbran Aztecs continue their winning ways with a 24-11 victory over North Gwent Cougars. Player of the match was the Aztecs' Tony Collins with 3 wins and he was well supported by Mark Edmunds, also with 3 wins and 1 win for Andrew Ryder, who was returning from injury. For the Cougars there were single wins each for Michal Policht and Samuel Slatter. 

Second place is still held by Blaenavon Aces following their 21-9 win over Cwmbran Preachers. Player of the match was the Aces' Ben Allen with maximum wins and he was well supported by Jon Allen, also with 3 wins and Iestyn Howells with 1 win. For the Preachers' David Lloyd and Ray Goulding collected a win each.

Moving into third place are Cwmbran Blues after their 20-15 win over Cardiff Nomads. Player of the match was the Blues' Dave Lloyd with 3 wins and he was well supported by Jozef Sujanic with 2 wins. For the Nomads there were 2 wins for Dave Groundsell, including a very good win over the higher ranked Sujanic, and a win each for Peter Gordon and Geoff Strangeway.

The race for the Division Two title is far from being decided as the three main contenders all won comfortably this week. The current leaders, Cwmbran Dynamos beat Cwmbran Devils 27-3 with the player of the match being Alex Jones with maximum wins. Jones was well supported by Will Smith-Haddon and Richard Lownsbrough, also with 3 wins.

Moving into second place are Cwmbran Lions following their 27-4 win over the depleted Cwmbran Fellows. Player of the match was the Lions' Nigel Gore with 3 wins and there were also 3 wins each for John Williams and Haydn Skinner. For the Fellows', guest player Howard Gaut picked up 3 team points.

In third place, but with a game in hand over the teams above them, are Cwmbran Eccentrics after their 25-4 win over North Gwent Terriers.  Player of the match was the Eccentrics' John Thomas with maximum wins and he was well supported by Ian Shipley, also with 3 wins and Lincoln Alford with 2 wins. For the Terriers, Joel Price picked up a very good win over the higher ranked Lincoln Alford.
