28th January 2020 Match Reports

It is as you are in Division One of the Eastern Valley Table Tennis League following the latest round of matches played this week.  Despite not having a game Cwmbran Aztecs are still top of the division. In second place are Blaenavon Aces who beat Cwmbran Tigers 18-14. The Aces' Iestyn Howells was the player of the match with 2 wins and was well supported by Jon Allen also with 2 wins and guest player Peter Gordon with 1 win. For the Tigers, guest player John Thomas had 2 wins including a good win over the higher ranked Jon Allen and Michal Luckanic also had 2 wins.

In third place are Cwmbran Preachers following their 23-10 win over Cardiff Nomads.  Player of the match was the Preachers' David Lloyd with 3 wins and he was well supported by Claire Flannagan and Ray Goulding with 2 wins each. For the Nomads, there were single wins each for Peter Gordon and Geoff Strangeway.

The final match in Division One saw Cwmbran Blues defeat North Gwent Cougars 24-7 with the Blues' Dave Lloyd awarded the player of the match with 3 wins. Lloyd was well supported by Colin Price, also with 3 wins and guest player Geoff Strangeway with 2 wins. For the Cougars, Laura Price gained her teams solitary win.

In Division Two Cwmbran Dynamos took advantage of the previous leaders, Cwmbran Eccentrics, having a bye week to move to the top of the division with a 24-11 win over North Gwent Terriers.  Player of the match was the Dynamos' Alex Jones with 3 wins and he was well supported by Richard Lownsbrough and Will Smith-Haddon with 2 wins each. For the Terriers, Michal Policht fought well for his 2 wins and 8 team points.

Remaining in third place are Cwmbran Lions following their closer than expected 21-15  win over Cwmbran Devils. Player of the match was the Lions' John Williams with 3 wins and he was well supported by Nigel Gore, also with 3 wins. For the Devils' Stan Williams, Finlay McNeil and guest player Howard Gaut all had good wins over the higher ranked Haydn Skinner.

 The final match in the Division Two saw Cwmbran Panthers gain a 22-11 win over Cwmbran Fellows.  Player of the match was the Panthers' Yuri Cherkasenko with 3 wins and he was well supported by Damian Luckanic and Mick Mellor with 2 wins each. For the Fellows, guest player Lincoln Alford battled well for his 2 wins and 8 team points.
