A magnificent treble from Fraser Riley condemned league leaders Greetland Social 'A' to their first defeat in 18 months as they lost to Central 5-4.
Riley defeated Matthew Shaw, younger brother Alex and James Foster, whilst Eric Greenwood stepped up to the occasion with two impressive victories of his own.
Riley put Central ahead with a superb display in a 3-1 victory over Matthew Shaw before Foster levelled the match with a tight 3-2 win over Malcolm Fowler. Central were quickly back in front when Greenwood came from 9-3 down in the fifth to beat Alex Shaw, before Matthew tied the match again with a 3-0 win over Fowler.
But Riley pounced again, beating Alex in an entertaining and tight 3-1 match. Greenwood's comeback efforts shocked Greetland again as he came from 2-0 down and 10-7 down in the fifth to beat Foster, leaving Central on the cusp of a shock victory.
However, any hopes of Greetland surrendering weren't restored. Alex showed tremendous courage to come from 2-0 down to beat Fowler, and when Matthew beat Greenwood 3-0, the game was level.
It was down to Riley to seal the match against Foster, and did so, surviving a brave effort from Foster to win the match 3-1 and break Greetland's 34 match unbeaten run.
Meanwhile, YMEN registered a 7-2 victory over BT. Stand-in Keith Skarz was the star as he registered three victories, whilst Shamir Bose and Fraser Krischke won two apiece. Krischke put YMEN ahead with victory over Lyndon Harris before BT's Mick Reddy impressively dispatched of Bose. Skarz put YMEN ahead with victory over Justin Harris before Bose beat Lyndon. BT continued to fight for a way to pick up victory and found hope when Justin defeated Krischke. But after that YMEN ran rampant, picking up the next four sets to secure victory.
Division 2
Rams returned to winning ways with an 8-1 victory over Evergreens. Rams raced into a 5-0 lead before Dave Lewis showed some resistance for Evergreens with victory over Darrell Mann. But Rams dusted themselves down and won the next three ends, with Dave Stretton particularly impressive as he completed a clean sweep of 3-0 wins.
