Halifax TTC was well represented in Derby as two sides participated in the first weekend of Junior British League.

The event, which took place at the impressive Derby Arena, saw over 200 young players clash on 38 tables over the two days.

Halifax had teams in Division 1 and Division 2A, enjoying relative success along the way.

In fact, the first team had a highly successful event, ending the first weekend occupying second place in the division, which is one below the Premier Division.

Jonny Heslop was among the trio who took to the table, with the Halifax Closed runner-up ending the weekend with five wins from 10.

Amir Hussain, who regularly attends the Friday night sessions, enjoyed further success as he won seven out of his ten games, but it was Joshua Weatherby who was the star performer as he won on nine of his ten outings.

Together, they won four of their five games, defeating Halton, Sussex, Plymouth and Fusion. Their only defeat was to Dublin, who ended the weekend with a 100% record.

Meanwhile, the second-team also lost just one match over the two-day event and are just two points off top spot despite ending the weekend in fourth.

Danny Olsberg, another regular on Friday nights, was the team's star performer with nine wins from his ten matches, while Lewis Palmer and Cameroun Sandhu also battled throughout to pick up a number of impressive results. Palmer ended with a 50% record, while Sandhu won three of his ten games.

One negative was an injury sustained by Ben Fillingham, with a knee injury forcing him to pull out after playing just one match.

A 6-0 win over London Academy was the highlight, before following draws with Cardiff City B, Ipswich and Sycamore. Their only defeat was to Kingfisher.
