The new season in the Hastings & District Table Tennis League got under way with few surprises in the top Division. Champions Bexhill A had Lewis Mayhew and Ryan Warner unbeaten in a 9-1 win at Tackleway B whose consolation win came when Adrian Goodrum beat Bob Lowe.

Hollington A dismissed promoted Saints B 10-0 with Paul Barry, Andy Furnival and new signing Abdle Hamede Obeyed all unbeaten.

Hollington B had a good 6-4 win over Bexhill C despite a maximum from Graham Gillett for the losers. Jamie Martin and Robin Gibbs took 2 apiece for Hollington and combined to take the crucial doubles 16-14 in the 5th set.

In Division 2, Tackleway C scraped past a below-strength Saints D 6-4 with James Gorridge, Andy Brown and Danny Rickaby all winning 2 games. Alan Blackman was outstanding for Saints winning all his games in straight sets.

James Gorridge had a busy week as he also turned out for Tackleway D contributing a crucial maximum in the 6-4 win over Hollington E. Phil Toze chipped in with 2 wins, as did Hollington’s Bradley Heselden.

The contest of the week, in Division 3, saw Tigers D fight out a 5-5 draw with NALGO B with 4 matches going the distance. Two of these involved NALGO’s Ron Spencer, but he won both of them to pick up the only maximum. Phil Talbot and Stuart Pattenden both won 2 for Tigers.

Dave Power and Neil Pankhurst were unbeaten as Saints F beat Hollington G 9-1.
