Observer 13-11-15

The two teams at the foot of the First Division table in the Hastings & District Table Tennis League met and Tackleway C took their first points of the season from a 5-5 draw with Tackleway B. For the C team, James Gorridge notched up his first Division 1 maximum and Andy Brown won two while Kevin McEwan won two for the B side, including a win over Kevin Rowe at 11-9 in the 5th set.

Hollington Academy A maintained their good run with a 9-1 win against Hollington Academy C when Paul Barry and Andy Furnival were unbeaten and Basher Obeyede won two. Two of Furnival’s wins came at deuce in the decider and Nick Standen picked up the C team’s consolation.

Tackleway A beat Tigers A 7-3 thanks to three wins for Roger Pingram and two each from Roy Funnell and Mike Funnell while Tony Catt won two for Tigers.

Pingram won an epic against Catt 12-10, 19-17,15-17,4-11,14-12 while Roy Funnell’s win over Dave Mitchell and Pingram’s over Sheila King were nearly as tight.

Ron Davenport had an outstanding maximum for Saints B but Saints still went down 7-3 to Bexhill A thanks to two wins each for Rob Warner, Martin Kellaway and Bob Lowe.

 

In Division 2, Tackleway D and Tackleway F drew 5-5, with Sue Pingram unbeaten for the D side and the F team’s Keith Lindsay and Danny Kildea winning two each.

Hollington Academy D will be a threat in this Division and they beat Tigers B 7-3 with three straight-set wins from Kevin Barry and two from Ryan Heselden while Rama Patel picked up two for Tigers.

Hollington A beat Bexhill G 7-3 with maximums for Steph Sargent and Neil Stapley, making his first appearance of the season.

 

Tigers C and Hollington D drew 5-5 in Division 3, with Michael Foster’s maximum key for the home side. Hollington have started the season well and they had two wins apiece for Ryan Demeza and Yasar Akar.

Sue Clarke and Ken McEwan were unbeaten for Willett & Phillips as they beat Hollington C 7-3.
