Hollington Academy A still lead  Division 1 of the Hastings & District Table Tennis League after Paul Barry’s maximum and two wins from Basher Obeyed saw them beat Saints B 7-3. The Academics may regret the loss of a point, however, as Saints’ Ron Davenport beat Obeyed 11-9 in the 5th and John Wond had a similarly close win over Chelsea Furnival.

Saints A moved to within 3 points of the leaders after beating Hollington Academy B 8-2 with Dave Butler and James Winchester unbeaten.

Hollington Academy C and Tigers A had a hard-fought 5-5 draw which featured a maximum from Tony Catt for Tigers backed with two wins for Sheila King in her best performance of the season. Will Goodstone picked up two for Academy, who won both matches which went the distance.

In Division 2, the top teams met in a rearranged match when leaders Bexhill D beat NALGO A 7-3. Brian Beaney won three and John Bradbury two for the leaders while Paul Hyland won two for NALGO.

Tackleway D and Tigers B drew 5-5 when Rama Patel’s maximum and two from Chris Woods were not quite enough to clinch victory for Tigers. Alan Blackman won two games for Tackleway.

Saints C had a 9-1 win at Bexhill G, with Dick Copsey and Andy Syrett unbeaten and Clive Drew-Clifton winning twice. Barry Goodson stopped the rot for Bexhill, beating Drew-Clifton 11-9 in the decider.

In Division 3, Monarchs were tested by Tackleway G before edging home 6-4, mainly through the efforts of Andrew Edwards who won all his games in straight sets. Douglas Bick and Kevin Eastman both won two games for Tackleway.

Tigers C had a 9-1 win over NALGO B in which Michael Foster and Chris Floyd were unbeaten and John Campbell won two games.

Leaders Bexhill F consolidated their position with an 8-2 defeat of third-placed Hollington D with maximums from Harvey Webb and Malcolm Glover. Hollington’s two wins were both hard-earned with Ryan Demeza and Kieran Gibbs winning at deuce in the 5th against Ricky Knight.
