Defending champions Bexhill A gained a key 7-3 victory over rivals

Hollington Academy A in Division 1 of the Hastings & District Table Tennis League.

For Bexhill, Lewis Mayhew gained a critical maximum and Rob Warner won two

games while Paul Barry won two for Academy.

Mayhew is unbeaten this season, as is Ritchie Venner of Saints A who maintained his

record in the 10-0 win at Tigers A in which Dave Butler and James Winchester also

won three games.

These results leave Bexhill A, Hollington Academy A and Saints A with all to play

for at the top the table.

James Gorridge’s maximum for Tackleway C helped them secure a 5-5 draw with

Saints B, for whom Mick Hart and John Wond won two apiece.

At the foot of the table Tackleway B are now two points adrift of Tackleway C, after

losing 9-1 to Hollington Academy C. Robin Gibbs and Rose Rainton were unbeaten

and Lisa Standen won two for Academy; Rainton is the third player on 100% in the

top division.

In Division 2, Tackleway D’s 7-3 win at Hollington A was marred by an injury to

Hollington’s Sean Godfrey, the division’s top player, who was unable to complete the

match. Owen Hatter was unbeaten for the winners.

Hollington Academy D snatched a 6-4 win at Tackleway F with a maximum for

Kevin Barry and two from Ryan Heselden while Peter Wilson won two for

Tackleway.

NALGO A edged past Saints D 6-4 thanks to a comfortable maximum from Paul

Hyland. Claire Bridges won two for Saints, who almost got the draw when Paul

Davis lost 12-10 in the fifth to Mick Lane.

The leading teams in Division 3 had comfortable wins with Bexhill F (Harvey Webb,

Diane Webb and Malcolm Glover) beating Hollington C 10-0 without the loss of a

game.

Six points in arrears, Monarchs beat Hollington D with Peter Harding and Dave

Turnbull unbeaten and Andrew Edwards winning two.

In a much tighter contest, Saints E’s Neil Pankhurst’s maximum was in vain as two

wins each for Amelia Long and Ken Philcox secured a 5-5 draw for Hollington B.
