With the new season imminent in the Hastings & District Table Tennis League, Division 2 again promises some hard-fought encounters at both ends of the table.

Relegated from Division 1 after just one season, Tackleway C will be looking to rejoin the elite, despite the loss of James Gorridge, who has joined the A team squad.

Their main rivals may come from within their own club with Tackleway D and the experience of Owen Hatter and Alan Blackman. If Martin Richards is added to their squad, they will surely start as favourites.

Bexhillians G will be dangerous outsiders as Cameron Jones is joined by new signings Kevin McEwan from Tackleway and Ryan Heselden from Hollington Academy.

Tigers B, led by Chris Woods, are unchanged and could be in the mix, as could Saints  C as Saints effectively merge last year’s C and D teams. Saints will be without Dick Copsey, who has decided to hang up his bat.

NALGO A and Hollington A are both unchanged and Hollington  will be hoping that Shaun Godfrey has a successful return from injury.

Harvey Webb’s Bexhillians F, who won Division 3, will have to start the season without Ricky Knight, who is injured,

Konrad Pieterse will have limited availability for Bexhillians E, who have brought in Malcolm Hilton.

Hollington B include three players stepping up from Division 3, with two juniors in Amelia Long and Ryan Demeza and Kieran Gibbs who has just turned eighteen.

Division 3 has three main contenders with Hollington Academy D voluntarily stepping down from Division 2 as marginal favourites although their success may hang on recruitment of one or more squad players as cover.

Relegated Bexhillians H should also be a force, with Alan Chumbley joining their squad.

Last season’s runners-up Monarchs will again put in a challenge and have recruited Alison Jordan from Eastbourne.

The other seven teams in this Division have made little or no changes since last year,

but Tigers are only fielding one team. Ken Philcox will lead Hollington C while Bradley Britt (21) is the senior player for Hollington D.
