The main match up in Division 1 of the Hastings & District Table Tennis League saw Bexhill C scrape home 6-4 against Hollington Academy B. Bexhill’s John Wilson scored a matchwinning maximum, backed with two wins from Graham Gillett but Academy’s Lisa Standen had the performance of the week, if not the season, as her two wins included the scalp of Graham Gillett. Standen beat Gillett in five sets, with three deuces while Wilson’s performance included five-set wins over Standen and Robin Gibbs.

Bexhill A, fielding a weakened team at Saints B faced a minor crisis at 4-3 up before holding their nerve to win 7-3. Martin Kellaway edged home in 5 sets over Ron Davenport, completing his maximum, before Bob Lowe had to come from 0-2 down to overcome Andre Keen. Trevor Towner closed proceedings with a win over Mick Hart. Lowe and Davenport both won two games.

At the foot of the table, Tackleway C are now seven points adrift after a 10-0 defeat at the hands of their nearest rivals Tackleway B, for whom Martin Richards, Adrian Goodrum and Kevin McEwan did the damage.

Tigers A are still just ahead of Tackleway B after a surprise 7-3 win over Tackleway A, in which Tony Catt and Dave Mitchell were unbeaten.

In Division 2, Saints C had three wins from Andy Syrett and two from Dick Copsey in their 7-3 win over Bexhill E for whom Konrad Pieterse also won two.

Alan Blackman and Owen Hatter were both unbeaten as Tackleway D beat Tackleway F 8-2 to consolidate their second place.

At the foot of the table Bexhill G had their first win of the season, beating Hollington A 6-4. Barry Goodson had a match-winning maximum and Malcolm Hilton won two for Bexhill while Steph Sargent won two for Hollington.

Third Division leaders Bexhill F beat Tigers D 7-3 with an excellent maximum from Diane Webb and two wins each for Harvey Webb and Malcolm Glover.
