There were some close matches in Division 1 of the Hastings & District Table Tennis League with just three weeks of the regular season remaining. Tigers A and Hollington Academy C drew 5-5, with Tigers again indebted to unbeaten Tony Catt who also joined with Sheila King to win the doubles. Nick Standen and Will Goodstone both won twice for Academy but Dave Mitchell kept Tigers in it with a four-set defeat of Scot Bills.

Bexhill B and Tackleway A also drew, with a maximum from Tackleway’s Roger Pingram the highlight.  Andy Summers won two for Bexhill and he and Yotza Krstic won a crucial doubles.

Bob Lowe and Ryan Warner were unbeaten as Bexhill A beat Tackleway B 7-3. This was Warner’s first competitive outing after breaking a leg in pre-season.

Bexhill C beat a depleted Tackleway C 7-3 with John Wilson unbeaten and two wins for Pete Robinson. James Gorridge’s two wins for the losers included a defeat of Robinson at 12-10 in the decider.

In Division 2, Tackleway D did well to come back from last week’s setback to beat Tigers B 8-2 with maximums for Sue Pingram and Owen Hatter and two wins for Alan Blackman. Rama Patel picked up one for Tigers and partnered Chris Woods to a doubles win.

NALGO A beat Bexhill E 7-3 after a long drawn out struggle in which five sets went to five games. Paul Hyland won three and Mick Lane two for NALGO.

In Division 3, bottom team McPhersons have conceded their last three games, which gave Monarchs the chance to go top. Their 9-1 win over Tackleway G, in which Peter Harding and Andrew Edwards were unbeaten and Dave Turnbull won two, plus a 10-0 walk-over moved them into top place.

Unbeaten Bexhill F beat third-placed Hollington D 7-3 with three wins for Harvey Webb and two for Ricky Knight while Ryan Demeza picked up two for Hollington.

This leaves Monarchs, with one game to play, three points ahead of Bexhill F, who have three games left.

Sue Clarke’s maximum and two from Phil Bailey helped Willett & Phillips to a 5-5 draw with Tigers D, for whom David Tran won two.
