In a critical battle in the relegation zone of Division One of the Hastings & District Table Tennis League, Tackleway B met Bexhillians D, with both teams on 8 points, one place above the automatic relegation spot. Despite a valiant maximum from Bexhill’s John Bradbury, Tackleway took the match 6-4 to go two points clear of the losers. Martin Richards and Adrian Goodrum both won twice for Tackleway.

Tony Catt returned for Tigers A, but they are still bottom after going down 8-2 to Hollington Academy B, for whom Rose Rainton was unbeaten with Sam Collins and Jamie Martin winning twice.

Leaders Hollington Academy A bounced back from last week’s minor setback to brush aside Bexhillians B 9-1 with three wins for Nathan Darby and Basher Obeyed and two from Andy Furnival.

Pete Robinson’s maximum led the way in Bexhillians C’s 7-3 defeat of Saints B. John Wilson and Alan McCleave both won two for Bexhill as did Saints’ John Wond.

Division Two leaders Bexhillians G (Cameron Jones, Ryan Heselden, Kevin McEwan) beat Saints C 10-0 and find themselves eight points clear with a game in hand after some dramatic results elsewhere leave the next five teams covered by a mere three points.

Second placed Tackleway D lost ground after an 8-2 defeat to Tackleway C who had Kevin Rowe and Nick Coleman unbeaten. Coleman was making only his second appearance in Division Two this season, while the D side were without Owen Hatter.

Hollington A’s good run ended as they too were below strength and went down 8-2 to Bexhillians E who had a maximum from Paul Welford and two wins for Pam Winter and Malcolm Hilton. Steph Sargent picked up Hollington’s two.

Tackleway E had a 7-3 win over NALGO A when Gina Rogers was unbeaten and Keith Lindsay won two, while Paul Hyland won twice for NALGO. Rogers won an epic encounter with Hyland 14-12, 15-17, 11-9, 9-11 11-9.

In a close encounter in Division Three, Tigers C beat Hollington C 6-4 with Chris Floyd and Phil Talbot (Tigers) and Keith Young and Pete Shoesmith (Hollington) all winning two games.
