Fourteen-year-old Fraser Kent, of Hollington Academy C, maintained his unbeaten record in Division One of the Hastings & District Table Tennis League with an outstanding maximum as his side went down 7-3 to second-placed Bexhill B. Kent, who is Sussex ranked No. 2 at Cadet (Under 15) and No. 5 Junior (Under 18), included the scalp of Hastings champion Lewis Mayhew who picked up two for the winners, as did David Rayment and Martin Kellaway.

Towards the foot of the table, Bexhill B improved their lot with a first win of the season, beating Saints B 7-3 with two wins each for Andy Summers, John Ellis and Brian Busbridge. Saints led 2-0 but had to wait until the last set for Gary Pells, who won twice for Saints, to gain a point, beating Ellis in five games.

Bexhill G slipped below Bexhill B despite a point from a 7-3 defeat to Saints A, who had Dave Butler and James Winchester unbeaten.

Leaders Hollington Academy A (Paul Barry, Nathan Darby and Basher Obeyed) had a comfortable 10-0 win at Tackleway B.

Division Two is providing an ultra-competitive environment and leaders Tigers A had to come from 3-5 down to claim a 5-5 draw with third-placed Tackleway D. Dave Mitchell notched another maximum for Tigers while Alan Blackman and Keith Lindsay won two each for Tackleway.

Bexhill E are a point adrift of the leaders after Tina Beaney was unbeaten and Pam Winter and Paul Welford won two each in the 8-2 defeat of Hollington A. Beaney’s maximum included a rare defeat for Shaun Godfrey who picked up Hollington’s brace, but three of Bexhill’s wins came at deuce in the decider.

Bexhill D’s revival continued as they won 6-4 at Hollington Academy D, with Brian Beaney and Nick Coleman both winning twice and despite Kevin Barry’s maximum for the losers.

It was whitewash week in Division Three, with the three matches played all ending 10-0. Willett & Phillips (Phil Bailey, Sue Clarke, Ken McEwan) beat Hollington C and Tackleway F (Steve Milton, Kevin Eastman and Doug Bick) took out Tigers B by the maximum score.
