Bexhillians G took the Second Division title in the Hastings & District Table Tennis League after leading from week six. New signings Kevin McEwan and Ryan Heselden joined with Cameron Jones to win the league with a little to spare. Jones and Heselden, who turned seventeen last week, were ever present but McEwan was the main man, topping the averages with 96%. Bexhill’s only defeat came at Tackleway D, without McEwan and after the title was secured.

The Tackleway club filled the next three positions and may rue the fact they all took points off each other. Tackleway C (Danny Rickaby, Kevin Rowe and Andy Brown) eventually took second place with some solid team performances.

Tackleway E were third, with Gina Rogers having an excellent season on her return to league table tennis.Tackleway D finished fourth, with Owen Hatter and Alan Blackman making them always hard to beat.

At the foot of the table, the young Hollington B side finished in the relegation slot, but will hopefully have benefited from the experience. Their fate was sealed with an 8-2 defeat by nearest rivals Saints C

In mid-table, Pam Winter’s efforts for Bexhillians E could not quite maintain their challenge to the Tackleway triumvirate. Hollington A briefly led the table in the early stages before fading somewhat. Shaun Godfrey was again outstanding for Hollington, coming second in the averages, while Paul Hyland (NALGO) finished third.

A strong Division Three was won by last year’s runners-up Monarchs. Their team of Peter Harding, Andrew Edwards and new acquisition Alison Jordan, who achieved 91%, won all bar one of their fixtures.

They were pushed all the way by Bexhillians H (Alan Chumbley (88%), Dom Goodson, Baz Goodson (83%)) while Tackleway F came third but lost momentum after Danny Kildea , the Division’s top player with 96%, moved up to Division Two in February.

Saints D had a respectable finish, assisted by the mid-season signing of Rob Clemence, who had some good wins.

Dave Watters and Peter Watters of Hollington Academy D enjoyed a good season which was somewhat blighted by their valiant struggles to find a third player.
