The meeting of the top two in the Hastings & District Table Tennis League Division One lived up to expectations as Hastings Academy A and Bexhill A could not be separated in a 5-5 draw. Academy went into the match with their deadly duo, Paul Barry and Nathan Darby both unbeaten in league matches since January 2018 but both players’ run came to an end as they won two apiece, along with Lewis Mayhew and Martin Kapusta for Bexhill. Academy led 4-2 and then 5-4 before Kapusta came from 2-0 down to beat Ryan Heselden in five games and clinch the draw.

Academy B narrowed the gap to the top two to a single point with a 7-3 win at Hollington A in which Dave Butler was unbeaten and James Winchester won two. Kevin Barry won two for the losers

At the other end of the table Tackleway B eased their situation with a 7-3 defeat of Bexhill B who saved an unlikely point from 0-6 down. Tackleway had a maximum from John Dyson and two from Roger Pingram, while Andy Summers took two for Bexhill.

In Division Two, Andy Brown’s maximum helped Tackleway E take a 5-5 draw from a marathon encounter with Bexhill E. Cameron Jones and Paul Welford both won two for Bexhill, who won three of the four five-game encounters.

Tackleway C just missed out on full points after a 7-3 win at Bexhill F. They had three wins from Adrian Goodrum and two from Dan Rickaby while Dan Starnes won two for Bexhill.

Hollington E moved into second place in Division Three after beating Hollington C 6-4. Yasar Akar was unbeaten for the E side and Adam Akar won two while Pete Shoesmith won twice for the C team.

Ron Spencer’s maximum kept Nalgo B in the match in a 3-7 loss to Tackleway G for whom Elliott Fuller, Thomas Porter and Peter Agar all won two.

Tackleway H beat Hollington D 7-3 with three wins for Andy Holmes and two for Phil Talbot.  Holmes had to come from two games down to beat Jo Clarke who won two for Hollington.
