In the Hastings & District Table Tennis League Division One, leaders Hollington Academy A had a comfortable 10-0 win over Bexhill B, with Paul Barry, Bashar Ubaid and Ryan Heselden unbeaten. Their task was made easier when Bexhill’s Andy Summers conceded his last two sets with a calf injury after losing to Heselden.

Academy’s lead was stretched to three points when Saints A dropped a point in their 7-3 win at Tackleway A. Dave Butler won three and James Winchester two for Saints while James Gorridge’s two wins for the losers included an excellent defeat of Winchester, who also had to come from two games down to beat Michael Funnell.

Andy Furnival’s maximum kept Hollington Academy D in the match with Hollington Academy B, but the B side won 6-4 with Robin Gibbs and Tony Catt both winning two.

No change at the top of Division Two, with both leaders winning 8-2. Saints B had Jamie Martin and Ron Davenport unbeaten at Monarchs A, who never looked like taking a third set.

It was the same story in Hollington A’s win over Tackleway E, with maximums from Shaun Godfrey and Kevin Barry.

Saints lead by the narrowest of sets advantage margins and the two meet this week in what could be a championship decider.

Hollington B won 6-4 at Tigers A with three for Rob Clemence and two for Ryan Demeza while two from Chris Woods kept Tigers in contention, despite his loss to Clemence at 16-18 in the fifth.

Saints C kept their spot at the top of Division Three with an 8-2 win at Tackleway F, with Paulette Clarke unbeaten and Dave Watters and Andy Murphy winning two each. Peter Saunders won twice for Tackleway and his defeat of Watters was the latter’s second defeat of the season.  Saints need only a draw this week to take the title with 5 weeks to spare.

Second placed Hollington C edged home 6-4 at Tigers B with a Mick Oakman maximum and two from Keith Young while Chris Floyd won two for Tigers.
