Hollington Academy A took the First Division title in the Hastings & District Table Tennis League for the third consecutive year when they drew 5-5 with nearest rivals Saints A. With the Academics needing only two sets, the tension was eased early on as they took a 2-0 lead before Saints finished the stronger, coming from 3-5 down to claim the draw. Nathan Darby  was unbeaten for Academy while Dave Butler and James Winchester won two each for Saints.

Saints will be disappointed to miss out, having won the first encounter but may well slip into third after Bexhill A beat Bexhill C 9-1 with a David Rayment maximum and two wins from Martin Kellaway and Tina Beaney.

With Saints and Bexhill both having to play struggling Bexhill D, Bexhill A will probably have to take a point from their game in hand against the champions to claim second place.

Bexhill D probably needed at least a point in their clash with Tackleway A but lost out 8-2 as Roy Funnell and Gina Rogers were unbeaten for the winners. The evergreen Martin Richards came close to snatching the point, leading Rogers 2-1 in the final set of the match before going down in five games.

Saints B took the Division Two title with a 10-0 thumping for Tigers A.  Ron Davenport, Jamie Martin and Mick Hart ensured that Saints will return to the top division after a year’s absence.

Relegated Bexhill F went down 6-4 at Nalgo A despite a maximum from Harvey Webb. Paul Hyland and Mike Courtnage both won two for Nalgo and both lost to Webb 9-11 in the deciding game.

Tackleway E fill the other relegation slot in an unusually strong Division Two after losing 8-2 to Hollington B. Neil Stapley won three and Neil Pankhurst and Rob Clemence both won twice for Hollington while Mike Charter won two for the losers.

A great effort from two-man Monarchs B, to beat second placed Hollington C 6-4, may cost the losers the promotion slot. Peter Harding won three and Dave Turnbull two for Monarchs but Tackleway F can now claim second place if they take four points from Hollington E.
