Match Report - Week 7 - November 22nd 2017
Premier Division
Win for Hang Em High who stay top, loss for Assassins who drop to third. Win for Ping Panthers who go into second. For Hang Em High Michael Bridger was in fine form winning all three singles plus the doubles with Lynne Trussell. Two wins for Paul Brinkhurst and one for Lynne Trussell final score 7-3 to Hang Em High. For Game Changers two wins for Jim Skinner and one win for Costas Kyriacou.
Ping Panthers defeated Assassins 7-3 with Marc Burman defeating leagues leading player Keigo Burnham but still staying second to Keigo in the averages. For Ping Panthers a treble for Marc Burman two for Alan Stone with third player, fourteen year old John Strang causing an upset by defeating both top juniors Ben Worley and Charlie Hough to win two singles in this his first season in the premier. Marc Burman and Alan Stone went on to defeat Charlie Hough and Keigo Burnham in the doubles 11-7 in the fifth. For Assassins two for Keigo Burnham and one for Ben Worley.
Final premier match saw Dynamos defeating Bullets 6-4. For Dynamos the only treble of the night came from the in form Richard Cosens two from Matthew Caddy and One from Richard Caddy. For Bullets two from David Champneys, and one for John Burnham with David and John defeating Dynamos Matthew and Richard Caddy in the doubles.
Division One
Only two out of three match reports this week, Paddlers Vs St Andrews and Bashers Vs Lindfield Thunderbolts. St Andrews division one leaders moving further away from second placed Thunderbolts with a 7-3 win over Paddlers. Saints Terry Dean a treble, Stuart Vincent two and Darius Mayhew one. Terry and Vincent combined to take the doubles over Cathy Seiderer and Samantha Stoner in the doubles.
For Paddlers Cathy Seiderer, Samantha Stoner and Phil Harvey it was one apiece to earn Paddlers team a point. Lindfield Thunderbolts gained maximum points in their match against Bashers, winning 8-2. For both Andy Steel and David Metcalfe it was trebles with one from Vincent L’Estrange. David Metcalfe and Andy Steel defeated Patrick and Oliver Neil in the doubles for the maximum points. For Bashers twins Oliver and Patrick Neil it was one win each.
Division Two
Another 10-0 win for leaders of this division Magiks who have gone seven games without a loss. This week saw trebles all round for Mel Sims, Kevin Deacon and Alistair Blue with Mel and Kevin winning the doubles for their defeat of Smashing Pumpkins. Second placed Burning Rubber defeated Pingwins 8-2. Trebles for Steve Lee and Blake Davies and Gavin Pitts one. Blake and Steve combined to win the doubles. For Pingwins both Adam Wiseman and Rupert Browning played well to win one singles each.
A two man team for Dangermen did well to hold swifts to a five all draw. For Dangermen a treble from Tony Pells and one for Dino Draper. These two defeated Swifts Claudia Hough and Alanna Blain 12-10 in the fourth set. For Swifts a win and a walkover for Alanna Blain and Claudia Hough plus a walkover for Georgie Hough. Comment from Tony Pells great match lots of fun.
Cutting Edge defeated Blade Runners who could only field two players 7-3. Star player for Cutting Edge was eight year old Oscar Wiseman who won two plus a walkover. With Oscar’s talent and enthusiasm he could become one of the leagues top players. Team mates David Polhill with a win and a walkover and Dan Polhill a walkover with David and Dan winning the doubles gave them the edge! In their 7-3 win. For Blade Runners two for Malcolm Norman and one for Keith Johnson.
With twenty five young players aged between eight and eighteen playing in the league, twenty five to thirty juniors in the coaching sessions plus fifteen to twenty players coming for a fun practice on Sunday evenings the future for table tennis in Haywards Heath is very healthy.
