March Update
As we near the end of March, the end of the season is drawing ever nearer, with only another three weeks of scheduled matches (incl. this week) to go, the Closed Championships completed, as well as the Wren / Cup Semi-Finals and Finals.  Cup / Plate details can be seen on the separate Wren Cup / Plate page.

The Closed Championships seemed to go well this season, with Ken Stonebridge winning his first ever Open Singles title, defeating previous champion Mike Boardman in the final.  Ken had earlier just edged through in his semi-final against Alan Thomas, coming from two games down to win in five tight games, whilst Mike had eased past Marc Brent in the second semi.  Ken also made it a hattrick of wins, as he also won the Super Veterans Singles title in another five set thriller against Dave Wackrill, whilst in the Veterans Singles he overcame Marc Brent in four games.  In the other finals completed on 3rd March, Dave Gomm and Alan Thomas teamed up to defeat Mike Boardman & Nigel Finn in the Open Doubles, John Stock defetaed team mate Jack Reyland in the Division 2 Singles, whilst Les Leech won the Handicap Singles against John Stock.  In finals completed on Qualifying Nights, John Figg picked up three titles - Division 3 Singles, Random Doubles with partner Roger Dean and Mixed Doubles with Partner Jackie Channell.  Jackie also picked up yet another Ladies Singles title, to add to her long list of titles over the years.  Barabara Bart & Gil Salter won the Ladies Doubles, whilst our new Junior Singles champion is Harry Hook, who beat Paul Boyall in the final.

Meanwhile, in the League, Crown & Sceptre 1st look to have gained the advantage in the three-way chase for the League title, with a 10-0 over their own A team, whilst rivals Adeyfield 1st and St. Michaels were battling out their third 5-5 draw in as many meetings, to each remain unbeaten!  In Division 2, it is looking more and more like Flamstead A will finish at the top, with Crown & Sceptre B currently second, although McAlpine A could close the gap as they have games in hand.  In Division 3, St. Georges 1st and Adeyfield C have lead the way all season, and look likely to finish in that order, with Flamstead C not far behind in a clear third place.

A quick reminder that the LeagueAGM will take place on Tuesday, 19th May at Adeyfield Hall, starting 8pm.
