HEREFORD JUNIORS MATCH REPORT 1 2015-6

Hereford Juniors dominant

Hereford Juniors travelled to Wood Green Academy in Wednesbury on Saturday 10th October 2015 for the first of 4 sessions in the West Midlands region of the National Junior League.

Our team was Elliot Volpe, Jake Price and Matt Knight.  This is the third time the boys have played in this well organised event, and due to his age this will be Elliot’s last foray.

The writer was a bit concerned at first, as they had played in a league match the night before and so with a late night followed by an early morning, who knew what state they might be in?  Let’s just say it was a quiet journey up!

There were again 18 teams divided into 3 divisions, with the organiser trying to split the divisions equally taking into account the positions from last year and individual rankings.  As we finished third in division 1 last year, we were classed as one of the top 2 teams in each division.

The first match was against Streetly who were playing in this event for the first time and it turned out to be a bit of a mis-match with Hereford winning 6-0, all games being won 3 straight.

The second match was against Wood Green and the boys continued in the same vein, a 6-0 win, all games won 3 straight.

Next up was Draycott C, who appeared slightly more experienced players than those faced before.  However, the boys continued to sweep all before them with another 6-0 win, with only one game going to 4, all the rest were 3 straight.

After a light lunch the next game was against Hamstead who were the best team faced so far, but the boys upped their game (after words from yours truly!) and provided yet another 6-0 whitewash.

Last match of the day was against West Bridgford Reds who were similarly placed having not lost a game so far.  A bit of a wobble took place, losing the first game, but they calmed their nerves and won the next 5.  Closest match of the day was Matt against the West Bridgford No. 2 which he won 12-10, 12-10, 10-12, 12-10!

A dominant performance from Hereford with only one individual game lost.  Special mention should go to Matt who only lost one end all day and, prior to his very last match no player had scored more than 6 points against him.
