HEREFORD JUNIORS MATCH REPORT 2 2015-6

Hereford Juniors dominant – part 2.

Hereford Juniors travelled to Wood Green Academy in Wednesbury for the November session of the National Junior League.  This was the second session.

Elliot Volpe was unable to attend due to work commitments and so Kyle Day stepped in and played, together with Jake Price and Matt Knight.

The first match was against Woodfield B and a solid start for Hereford with a 5-1 win.  The Woodfield number 1 had a good win over Matt.

The second match was against Wood Green and the boys continued in the same vein, a 6-0 win, all games won 3 straight.

Next up was Colebridge B, another 6-0 win, with only one game going to 4, all the rest were 3 straight.

After a light lunch the next game was against Burton Uxbridge who were the best team faced so far.  Jake had a topsy turvy game against the number one, but winning eventually in 5 and provided yet another 6-0 whitewash.

Last match of the day was against Malvern who were similarly placed, having not lost a game and were certainly the best team the boys had played so far in either sessions.  Matt had a cracking game against the Number 1 winning 11-9, 9-11,11-9,11-9, both players showing some great attacking play.  Jake went 2-0 down against the same player but sneaked the third 12-10 and then really got going with some very strong attacking play to win the next two comfortably.  Kyle’s first game against the number 3 was again a 5 setter with Kyle winning 11-9 in the fifth.  He kept attacking and kept focused, achieving a good win.  Matt had a similar game with the same player, but went 2-0 down, struggling a bit with his style.  However, he held his nerve and won the next three to give us a final win of 6-0.  A really excellent result.

Another dominant performance from Hereford with only one individual game lost.  This means that they will play the last two sessions in Division 1.  Well done to Jake who has a 100% (20/20) record so far in this competition.  Special mention this time should go to Kyle who remained unbeaten all day; only one game was not won 3 straight and indeed he won two of his ends 11-0, quite an achievement in his first foray.

We should also congratulate Jake on breaking into the Cadet top 100 in the National Rankings for the first time (91) and Kyle is not too far behind at No 118.
