County Invitation Cup Competition

The County Invitation Cup final matches were played at Bromyard on Friday 24th April.

This year 16 players had entered and after the top four players had been chosen as captains, the teams were drawn for the other three places in each team, with a draw for another top player in each team and 2 players from the lower averaged players.

The games were up to 21 points and the best of three won each set.  All the players had a handicap and points were scored for their team by every 5 points won in a game, so a score of 14.21 and 12.21 would give the first player 4 points and the winner 8 points.

There were some excellent games played and a lot of close sets.  The winners by just 8 points were Nigel Foreshew, Jon Dyke, David Gwilt and Martin Gwilt, who share the cup for a year.  Their opposition were Steve Brown, Jake Price, Richard Owens and Chris Boivin.

In the last two matches, involving 20 sets, 12 sets went to a third game and 8 games went past 20 all.

Last week’s losers played in the other match and Simon Morgan’s team won by 10 points over Trevor Davies’ team.

The best game of the evening was perhaps between Harry Hales and Archie Beresford which ended at 29.27.  The smiles on these two Junior players' faces showed such a wonderful attitude to our sport.
