Hereford Champions again!
The fourth and final session of the Bristol National Junior League took place at Bristol Academy of Sport on Sunday 26th February 2017.
Our team was Jake Price, Matt Knight and Toby Dickens.
All the teams turned up this time and the organiser stated that the extra game previously played by Cleave & Claverham (in an attempt to catch up) would be null and void. This meant that Hereford were now top of the table by 4 points.
Our first match was against Cirencester and resulted in a 5-1 win, the Cirencester number one being too strong for Matt. Toby won a tight game against the number two 11-8 in the fifth.
The second match was against our top of the table rivals Cleave & Claverham and although they had a weaker team than last time, a great 6-0 win was decisive.
Third match was against West Wilts and another 5-1 win for Hereford. Matt lost the single game to the number one in five.
Stroud were our fourth game and they have some good young players who I’m sure will be a force to reckon with in a year or so. However, Hereford were just too strong this time and the match finished 6-0.
The final match was against Table Tennis Daily and with another comfortable 5-1 win we finished off a very successful day.
Champions again for Hereford Juniors, which is two years on the trot and in different regions of the NJL. Something for them and all of us to be proud of.
Special mention to Jake who went the day unbeaten and finished top of the overall averages – well done. Toby did exceptionally well, also finishing unbeaten on the day, after having quite a battle in his final match of the day winning a tight 5 ender. Matt continued his consistent form and despite being under the weather won 7 out of 10. I must also mention Zak who played an important part in the first two matches and finished on a very creditable 55%.
It will be all different next year, as Matt will no longer be a junior and so the very best of luck to those who are selected in the future to represent Hereford.
