Newbies great Start

Table Tennis Report for Monday 19th September 2016

The first matches in Division two of the Hinckley & district Table Tennis League, provided a mixed bag of results. New boys RE Studios 2 started life in Division two with a comfortable win over another new team, namely the youngsters of George Ward “D” the final score was 10 sets to nil in favour of RE Studios.  The score does not reflect the standard of play however with some very close games. Steve Crutchley (RE) was the player of the match but had a scare when young Oliver Wynne (GWD) took a game by 11points to 8 off him. A number of other sets went to either a fourth or fifth game. But in the end experience overcame enthusiasm.

Queen’s “B” also had a good start to the season, defeating G Ward “C” by 9 sets to 1.Both Tony Nixon and Colin Goodman won their three sets, whilst Rob Webster took the 1 for GW”C”. No fewer than seven sets went to either four or five games in what was a much closer match than the9sets to  score-line suggests.

Barlestone “C” ought out a very close match against Hit’N’Hope,  Barlestone went 4 sets to 2 up and then had to hang on grimly before finally running out winner by 6 sets to 4. The final result dependent upon Baggot and Westerby (Barlestone) defeating Nixon and Seddols (HnH) in the doubles to claim victory. Westerby taking a maximum for Barlestone with Seddols and Nixon winning two apiece for Hit’n’Hope.

The match between the two Cat teams Cat “F” and Cat”G” ended in a draw at 5 sets all. Phil Wood collecting all his games for the ( Cat”F)” team whilst penholder Nigel Sharpe (Cat”G”) finished with two wins.
